The European Commission has approved the application for the inclusion in the European Register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) for the Burrata di Andria, the town north of Bari in which this unattainable product was invented in early 1900.
“One of the first historical references to the cow’s milk cheese made from the combination of cream and cheese made of spun paste dates back to 1931 in a touristic guidebook,” the Commission says. With Burrata di Andria the number of Italian products (wines and spirits) included in the European Register “Door” of the PDO food / IGP / STG rises to 289.
